Like some sort of bizarre quarter-life crisis, The Gingerbread Men have decided to make their lives more interesting by jumping into a tiny car, and chucking it half way round the world over mountain ranges and deserts towards Mongolia.
If you are unfamiliar with this sort of international tomfoolery, the video to the right will give a brief guide to The Mongol Rally. The Mongol Rally is a yearly event, in which teams drive from London to Ulaanbaatar in search of adventure and to raise money for charity. Unlike other organized rallies this is not a race, and there is no set route. We will get to the route later don’t worry - it’s shown on the “The Route” page strangely enough.
Due to the variety in length of the route taken and potential problems faced during the trip, the rally can take somewhere between 3 and 8 weeks; “If you arrive too quickly, you didn’t do it right” is a common mantra of the organizers. There is also the potential to completely break the internal technical wizardry of the vehicle, and have to admit that you were bested by a pothole. Hopefully that doesn’t happen and to ease your mind we will be keeping a blog while en-route.
Various vehicles can be used to complete the Mongol Rally, though cars have a limit of a 1000cc (ish) engine; Why? Well, because doing it in a large 4x4 would be no fun. If you’re itching to see what car we’ve chosen, take a gander at the “The Vehicle” page.
