Consulting Ye Olde Google Map above, you will see the current route for a ‘route-less’ rally is as follows:

It all starts with a leisurely drive from Scotland through England to France. Once in continental Europe we make the most of the lack of visas and travel through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria to Turkey.

On the edge on Asia we then pass through Iran before venturing into Turkmenistan - visiting the Door to Hell en route to Uzbekistan. Like many foolish ralliers before us, we will be attempting the Pamir Highway through Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The Pamir Highway passes through some of the most treacherous landscape possible reaching a height of 4665m – making it the second highest road in the world. Unfortunately it is also prone to sporadic outbursts of warfare, so we may be forced to take a slight detour. Either way we will then pass into Kazakhstan on our way to Russia. From the border of Russia it is just a hop, skip and jump to Mongolia. Inside Mongolia, it is a short trip through the Gobi desert to the capital and destination of choice; Ulaanbaatar.

Unfortunately as much as we would love to remain in Mongolia for eternity, sadly we must return home to resume living like functional adults. We could ship the Gingerbread Car back to the UK and catch a train to Moscow. The other option is to jump back into that steaming pile of excrement known as our car and drive all the way back to sunny Scotland through Russia.
